A full-scale ECLS oxygenator
Haemair designed a novel ECLS oxygenator and set up a production line on which we made approximately 200 devices. These were tested for efficacy. The novel feature of these devices is that they have straight hollow fibres through which gas (oxygen) passes and the blood flow is parallel to the gas flow.

A straight-fibre device is particularly suitable for adaptation to 2-phase flow for treating the co-morbidities of ARDS and AKI (see separate page). Changes in regulatory processes introduced additional costs that made it impractical to go to full production. However, we have the capability of taking the project forward should the requirement attract the necessary funding.
